Secret to rule the Business world - Work Smarter not harder

Posted by Marie Christine in May 7th 2009

It’s a common approach that the harder and faster we work, the more we get done. However, despite of all the hard work, we fail to achieve our aims….have you ever thought why is it so? This proves that it is the high time to change our approach and our work strategy. Working smartly, with well structured goals is the best way to become an organized and successful businessman.

The ‘work smart’ philosophy says:
"less is better" or let me put it in a creative and simple way:
Getting more done with less is an art,
It’s a quality requiring much heart,
But I must confess
How I turned failure to success
Was to work hard at working smart.

However, I am sure many of you won’t agree with my approach to blame our failure for working hard. Actually, we all believe that the only way to achieve lasting success is hard work. Well, in business world every penny counts and we all are race to be on top in business world. So, with a businessman’s mind the only tip to success that comes to our mind is working hard.

I am sure, above given paragraphs must have made you questioned yourself….which category you fall in? Well, I consider myself a smart worker. To convince you about my opinion, here are few tips on how to achieve quick results with smart moves:

Manage time effectively:

Working hard or smart…in both cases it is vital to manage your working schedule efficiently. Avoid wasting your precious time on perplexed clients or projects.

List your priorities:

Once you know which deals and offers are more profitable, it will become easy for you to achieve more in less time.

Do what you believe in:

Always be smart and strong while taking decisions. Intelligent business decisions are central to any successful company, so always focus on doing what you do best and delegating the rest.

Balance work needs and personal commitments:

Sometimes, in our dedication towards our work we simply ignore every other commitment and keep working hard to achieve our goals. I don’t think so it is a very good strategy…always keep a balance in your business and personal life.

Be flexible to changes:

Remember every change coming your way gives you an opportunity to move ahead….so take your chance and prove yourself.

Look for shortcuts:

Always try looking for more efficient ways of doing your routine task. Try to come up with speed-up or combine steps - without sacrificing effectiveness.

Wise multitasking:

Here comes the most important tip…don’t ever stick to theory of getting finished up with one task at a time. Try doing 2 or more things at one time. It is always better to multi task your routine works but important projects need special attention.

Follow latest trends to attract customers:

Welcoming your customers in a modern and contemporary way makes them believe in your services/product.

Plan ahead:

Like a chess player always plan your steps before taking a move. Always take your time to study your decision carefully before implementing it. I am sure it will save you wasting time and making costly mistakes.

Follow smart working role models:

For this point I won’t mind if you follow me ;) Jokes apart…always be on the look-out who get more done in less time and follow their success stories.

Effective use of internet:

Everyone is searching internet to get their work done. Make a strong web presence so it brings in ample of credible customers to your doorsteps. This will help you have more customers in short time.

Keep yourself updated:

Technology advancement can help us reach the peak of success. Therefore, use new technology tools to help you work more efficiently.

You all will agree that this is a cut-throat and a materialistic world and we need to be smart enough to beat our competitors. But I would like to know which school of thought you belong to – the first believes in working hard for long hours while other follows the theory of “less is better”

However, I am sure these smart working tips will make you reconsider your working theory but I would conclude saying that working hard and working smart need to go hand in hand….what have you got to say about this theory?

15 Everlasting Time Management Tips - Tame your time!

Posted by Marie Christine in April 13th 2009

Until, last month I felt like getting crazier with every passing day when I use to be spending my full day in a frenzy of activity and then find out that I haven’t accomplished much. After putting in so much effort, I just managed to add few check marks to my To-Do-List :( This all made me wish there would have been more than 24 hours in a day or I knew any magical tips to tame the beast of time.

And then I decided to help myself by searching net for some reliable time management tips to increase my productivity while staying cool and managing to steal few moments to enjoy my life.

I am sure many of you will relate to the above given scenario…so here I are 15 ultimate time management strategies which will cure every workaholic in the world and encourage the utmost pessimist to get things done in no time.

•  Realize that time is a myth and there is no time to waste.

•  Learn how to prioritize your work and learn to break your “To-Do-List” when resources are limited.

•   Start and end on the fixed time and most importantly, value other people’s timing schedule as well.

•   Use your email software efficiently by flagging your mails according to the urgency.

•   Find out where your precious time is being wasted like net-surfing, reading family mails during work time. Try to beat these factors.

•   Set your specific goals and try to achieve them in any case.

•   Don’t ignore the role of time management tools like a Day-Timer or an Outlook foe scheduling your priorities.

Time Management
•   Don’t think you are the only one on the Earth who is being over loaded with work and have troubles with time management.

•   Make a “Sunday Night Strategy Session”. This might seem a bit unfair for asking you to spend a small part of your Sunday night in scheduling your week ahead but trust me it will save your early precious moments of Monday morning.

•   Lastly, the most important….no matter how small or big your business is. Do hire other people to help you handle some part of your work.

•   There is no harm if you spend one complete day after every two months to arrange your filing system on your computer. It will save you from lot of hectic, making it convenient for you to lay your hands on what you need.

•   Get in habit of setting time limits and following routines. It will save you from lot of time waste.

I am sure these all time management skills will turn the clock needles for you the way they did for me. These tips don’t mean to be the final ones….maybe any of you must have tried some other time saving tip and it would have changed your world.

Come and share them with us…it will be really helpful for all of us :)
