Who proves to be a better Entrepreneur – Men or Women?

Posted by Marie Christine in October 23rd 2008

Men-VS-Women-EntrepreneurI think, I don’t need to start with any introductory lines about my today’s post as the topic says it all. I know I am not bringing an unusual topic to light but the increasing statistics of women-owned business and emerging belief that women make better entrepreneurs have made me discuss this issue once again.

Different researches tell that everyday 420 women go out and start their own businesses–twice the rate at which men do so. Moreover, these businesses are growing revenue, profits and jobs faster than business as a whole. Today I am going to discuss how women’s perspective of running things may be a bit different from how men play the game.

I will be discussing different qualities men & women entrepreneurs’ posses and need your opinions to decide what makes one better than the other or you think the debate is endless.

1.Customer Relations:

Having a sensitive and nurturing nature women are mostly successful in this field and beat the men with a big margin.

2.Focused more about Targets:

Although men and women both work quiet focused but women sometimes are ready to make such deals which might not bring in more money (including me) but men always know what they want…financial success and strong reputation.

3.Risk:

Here I do not need to give an explanation…we all know and accept that men are better risk takers than women are. Men entrepreneurs believe that one should jump off the cliff and make a parachute on their way down but women won’t jump until they are sure that their parachute is perfect.

4.Working during weird hours:

It is always easy for men to work during any hour of the day, no matter how odd the timings might be but it is not that easy for women. I’ve spent years talking to different business women and most of them have children. Therefore, it is a setback that women cannot be always available.

5.Stronger Focus on Values:

It has been observed that personal and professional values stand first for women. It is not that men do not emphasize on values but women make it one of their top priorities and sometimes this makes them miss some of the great chances of success.

6.Dominating Qualities:

Women believe in building a business in such a way that it keeps on functioning successfully without them as well and this sometimes give a way to other people to come and take over easily. On the other hand, businessmen want to have a complete hold on their business and want everything to be dependent on them. This helps men run their venture with more power and steadiness.

So, what do you think? What are the biggest differences between men and women entrepreneurs? Who can run a business in a more productive way?

I am sure this discussion is endless and all the male and female must have a long list to defend their entrepreneurial qualities but I would like to conclude leaving you all with food for though that every time when a woman resigns, why it is imagined that she’s going home to bake cookies. Women are now strong enough to accept big challenges, take on more risks and test the full range of their business talents.

A Successful Businessman keeps Secrets from his Clients

Posted by Marie Christine in October 7th 2008

Business-deal-with-clientI am sure no one wants to have those irritating and annoying clients who ask too many questions before making a deal but however, putting myself in a client’s shoe, I don’t think asking multiple questions is wrong. Your answers to these questions help your customer trust you and your company’s reputation. He feels satisfied that his work is being handled by someone professionally responsible.

In a tough economy, we try doing everything to keep our customers coming back to us but still I would advice you to keep some secrets from your client. There are pieces of information you should never reveal to your client, no matter how many times they ask or how much they insist you.

First Secret:

Never let a client know your hourly rate. Try to fix the bottom-line rate of the complete project but avoid giving your rate according to per hour.

Second Secret:

I agree that a client has all the right to have all the information about your working on their project but they do not need to know the exact time you are going to spend on it. For example, you can tell your client that the work will be completed in 3 weeks although you get it done in 3 days.

Third Secret:

Do not share the tools, equipments and techniques, which help you get the work done quickly and efficiently. You should not share with them that your hard earned experience and efficient tools and equipments can help you get the task done in short span of time.

Now the hard part comes if a client insists to know any of these tactics… Let me help you out in this situation.

  • You are giving them time limit of 3 weeks to get a project finished because at a certain point in each project you have to wait for something (e.g., client approval, a proof, a quotation from another vendor, etc.)
  • You never know about the inevitable problems you can face which can affect your work speed.
  • Get them focus on the results and convince them that if you are taking a good amount of money, the results will be outstandingly satisfying. Offer them the extra time you will be ready to put in if the client is not satisfied with the results.

I hope these points will definitely help my fellow business owners stop making the mistake of being undercharged for their services.

Do share other secrets you think we should be keeping from our clients.
Take Care!
